Judge Daniel D’Alessandro (Ret.)

Judge Daniel D’Alessandro was born and raised in Jersey City. He is the first person in his family to go beyond the ninth grade. He has devoted his career to helping individuals, families, small businesses, and young lawyers.

Before his judicial appointment, Judge D’Alessandro founded his firm and was a general practitioner for 35-years with statewide trial and transactional experience; and was a family, probate and civil mediator and arbitrator.

He began his career as the Jersey City Municipal Defender and as Secaucus Municipal Prosecutor after his judicial clerkship in the Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court. He served as pro bono Counsel to domestic violence women’s groups and established Jersey City’s Office of Handicapped Advocacy, pro bono. He was also a Presiding Condemnation Commissioner, Conservator and Guardian ad Litem.

Judge D’Alessandro was designated as a “Super  Lawyer” by New Jersey Monthly in four separate categories: General Practice, Real Estate, Family law, and Civil Litigation.

He has lectured extensively on evidence, trial practice, family law, animal law, estates, mediation, arbitration, the practice of law, ethics, employment law, and real estate for the New Jersey Judicial College, the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Hudson County Bar Association, Lormann Education Services, The National Business Institute, the North Hudson Lawyer’s Club, The New Jersey Bar Foundation, New Jersey Lawyers for Justice; at Seton Hall, Rutgers and Fordham law schools and New Jersey colleges, high schools and community groups.

He is past-President of the Hudson County Bar Association; current Chair of its Continuing Legal Education Committee; past member of the NJ Supreme Court District VI Ethics Committee and Vice-Chair of the Fee Arbitration Committee.

His biography is listed in Who’s Who in America and in Who’s Who in American Law.

He is a past-President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County. He coached high school and AAU baseball, and high school football.

After graduating from St. Peter’s Prep, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from St. Peter’s College (now university)and is in its Hall of Fame as a member of the 1969 and 1970 football teams. He received his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law; and his Master of Legal Letters in Criminal Justice from New York University Graduate School of Law. He completed a complex litigation program at the National Judicial College on scholarship.
